Male Menopause And You

You and the rest of mankind have to age - whether it is desirable or not. This process has remained unalterably affixed in our system and also of other living organisms throughout the evolutionary history of this planet. Thus, to age, is to take the sweet with the bitter and one has no option, but to accept the rules of aging and menopause is surely one of them.
Menopause, sometimes referred to as Andropause in men , is a stage where men experience a drop in their libido, complain of erectile dysfunction, feel sad or grumpy, feel a certain loss in energy and strength, exhibit reduced interest in official, social or sports activities and a partial or complete interest in life in general. Unlike women, men experience menopause in slow degrees and their symptoms remain hidden until several years later. This is because unlike ovaries which stop functioning almost suddenly, the male reproductive system does not run out of substance, but maintains a flow till old age.
The main mark of menopause in men is the low level of testosterone, a hormone that significantly contributes to overall manliness. As the changes in testosterone are gradual in men, the only way to ascertain it is by blood samples. Usually, the male menopause seems to appear between the age of 45 and 50 years. However, off late, it has also been found in younger people and has also remained in very old people too. The appearance of male menopause in younger men is due to smoking, alcohol, indiscriminate drug use and life style changes.
There are medical and clinical ways of improving testosterone levels and this is done by testosterone replacement by injections. However, this can lead to several complications and side effects. The other ways are natural remedies like exercise, healthy diet or seeking psychological help. Some people turn to using things like cosmetic surgery to improve themselves. Having things like calf implants done in order to improve their looks. Whilst this has no direct medical benefit, the psycological effect that it can have is very real - and that in turn affects the physical.
Although male menopause or midlife crisis for that matter is going to come sooner or later, a positive and fun loving attitude to life and daily chores can greatly decrease the chances of depression and unnecessary fear.
