Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery for Men

Everyone hears about women getting nose jobs or face lifts, and of course breast augmentation enlargements. However, the trend is turning to men getting cosmetic surgery. Fifteen to twenty percent of all plastic surgery is done on men these days. Nose reshaping, hair transplantation, eyelid surgery, liposuction, breast reductions and body contouring are among the most popular procedures men are having done.

Cosmetic surgery is perfect for those looking for a quick fix. If you don’t have time to go to the gym you can get Pectoral implants and have your 6 pack abs in no time. However, like most quick fixes, there is a down side. Plastic surgery is expensive (anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 depending on the procedure).

There can also be side effects, both physical and mental. You must be put under anesthesia to get most procedures done and this comes with risks of heart attack, brain or nerve damage, stroke, or blood clots. After the surgery, you have risk of infection, skin death, numbness, puckers, or scarring.

Mentally you need to be prepared for the surgery to not be what you expected. Your nose may not be exactly what you pictured it, or you may not have that perfect body you were hoping for. Many people hope plastic surgery will fix all problems that person has in his life, only to find out that a new body doesn’t always mean a perfect, happy life. Some cosmetic surgery offices offer pre and post surgery counseling. This comes highly recommended to prepare patients for what lies ahead.

In the past, women were more likely to takes the risks of cosmetic surgery to feel better about themselves or do better in the work place. Now men are feeling the need to look younger, less tired, and more vigorous so they can keep their jobs, or get better jobs. Men are starting to feel the same pressure from the media and over all society’s value of beauty and wanting to get that edge over their competitors using cosmetic surgery.
