Don’t let nicks and cuts caused by shaving get the better of you!

Don’t let nicks and cuts caused by shaving get the better of you!

One of the regular after shave phenomena happens to be the awful nicks and cuts. There is hardly a person who has not experienced this. The quest for the perfect shave, usually leads to cuts. And sometimes even being too careful does not help.

Trying to stop the bleeding by dabbing it with toilet paper is not really beneficial. At the most, it it soaks up the blood but does not really heal. These “little” wounds need to be treated adequately, however small they are.

There are ways to treat these quite effectively.

Use an alum block

An alum block works like a miracle on nicks. A lot of people these days probably won’t even know what this is. In fact, the invention and introduction of the aftershave balm has made the alum block into somewhat of a curio. But, the miraculous healing quality of the alum block cannot be and should not be ignored.

Once you are done with the shaving, you should moisten this bloack and apply it all over the shaved area. It stops the bleeding, redness and irritation. It plays the role of a healing antiseptic. Using it is one of the best ways to deal with any cuts on your face.

The wonders of the petroleum jelly

You may not know that apart from treating rough skin, petroleum jelly is really effective in treating nicks and cuts. All you need to do is dab a little bit of it on the affected area. Petroleum jelly also acts like an astringent.

A styptic pencil can be useful

You can moisten these pencils and use them on the nicks. However take care not to apply more than the needed amount. These pencils are quite handy and beneficial.

Apart from these effective treatments, you could also apply aftershave creams that contain soothing agents, allantoin and aloe vera.

All these will ensure a quick healing time for your nicks and cuts.

Before I go, I need to relish in a new purchase. I have just bought the smartest saucony running shoes that I have ever owned. Toronto Marathon, here I come!

How To Treat Nicks and Cuts After Shaving

How To Treat Nicks and Cuts After Shaving

Although many have tried to prevent them it is difficult to avoid those nicks and cuts that occur when shaving. One of the major problems many men who shave have is treating those nicks and cuts.

Many men will simply put pieces of toilet paper on the cuts. Others will put a Band-Aid on them and pray the cuts heal quickly.

One of the best things to use on your face for nicks and cuts is the alum block. It is stone that looks like a crystal and is used by rubbing it on your face after moistening it with cool water. As you gentle apply it to your face it will act as an antiseptic. Its properties are of such that it cools and refreshes your skin once applied when you are done shaving. The alum block also works as a skin balm and is good for the bleeding associated with nicks and cuts.

You can also try using a small bit of petroleum jelly to smear the cut. This helps to seal the nicks and provide a way for the formation of blood clots.

You will get good results with a Q-tip soaked in witch hazel and applying it to each nick and cut. As an astringent, witch hazel works by constricting blood vessels thus slowing doing the bleeding so that the blood can clot.

Strangely enough one of the suggestions out there is to use your deodorant. This works because many deodorants contain aluminum chloride or its derivative aluminium chlorohydrate which works as an agent to clot the blood quickly.

One of the simpler treatments is to use an ice cube. The cube will cause the blood vessel to constrict thus the bleeding slows leading to clotting. All you need to do is to slowly rub the cube over the cuts and nicks.

While we are on the topic of skincare, I was doing some stuff online the other day and I came across a homepage covering chemical skin peel. Before I go on I would like to say that this is something I have never even chew over before this moment, but following a little more investigation, I can’t help but want to try it..
