Acne is a skin problem that not only bothers women or adolescents, but also men. Although, the cause of acne is still scientifically unknown, it can occur due to many reasons. Hormonal changes, consumption of oily food and even genetics are a few reasons amongst these.

Acne is generally known to mostly affect oily skin however this does not mean that people with dry skin and other skin combinations are safe. The best and easiest way to keep oneself away from acne is to keep the skin clean at all times. Dirt and perspiration can clog the skin’s pores and cause acne. Therefore, keeping a tissue handy always helps.

Consumption of certain food also affects acne. Oily and spicy food should be especially avoided. It is a well known myth that chocolates cause acne. However, no amount of scientific research has ever been able to prove the direct relation between chocolate and acne. So, go ahead and grab that bar of your favorite chocolate.

One should refrain from smoking because the tobacco can pollute the bloodstream and give ugly acne. It is advisable to drink a lot of water to wash off the toxins from one’s body. Water helps in keeping skin problems at bay and gives glowing and healthy skin.

Acne can be of varying types, ranging from mild to severe. Pustules, papules and rosacea are some forms of acne. In some cases, where the acne is mild, Benzoyl Peroxide can be tropically applied over the affected area. This can be found in different concentrations. However, it is always advisable to consult a dermatologist before using any medication.

Acne can leave ugly scars if picked constantly. Therefore, the affected area should not be touched. Although, acne cannot be prevented, it can certainly be cured with the help of medication. Always seek professional help in cases of acute acne.
