New Year’s are a time of great psychological change. For many of us, it is the time of the year that we ourselves want to change the person that we became during the previous year. For reasons beyond our own comprehension, we bogged down in work, less adventurous and probably a little more averse to risk. That pretty lady strap hanging on the ride back from work, that lovely man eating his sandwiches on the bench. Something inside of us fluttered, but for some reason we did not go through with our own base conviction.

Such is life in cities where millions people live and yet where each inhabitant barely knows his or her neighbour. We lock ourselves off from the possibilities of the outside world, trying to take comfort from the frivolous around us. (more…)

I was out drinking in a trendy type London bar at 6pm – the time when all the suits come out from work to briefly play before returning to their homes so they can do their routine and get back to work the next morning.
